Pemberton's Walking Trails

Discover the world class forest trails around the Southern Forest region.

Pemberton has some of the best walking tracks anywhere in the country.

Explore simple walks around Big Brook Dam (4.2 km, bituminised & disabled access) or wilderness old growth forest trails inside the Warren National Park, Beedelup National Park or the D’Entrecasteaux National Park. You can do it on your own with a simple map and follow the signs, or take a structured tour with Pemberton Hiking Company.

Self guided walks with a day pack are a satisfying and an inexpensive way to experience the wonders of the Pemberton environment. A range of trails cater for the walker with short strolls of 1.5km or up to anything over 10km. There is a myriad of history in the region with names such as “Heart Break Trail”, or the “Cascades Bushwalk” which follows one of the many railway easements that brought timber into the town’s mills.

Bibbulmun Track

Adjoining the trail network is the world famous Bibbulmun Track (Perth to Albany, 964 kilometres): The track meanders through Pemberton and has all the facilities that walkers are accustomed to. If you are doing a longer walk on the track, the camp sites have timber shelters, picnic tables, water tanks, tent sites and long drop toilets. All campsites do have wood fireplaces but it’s advised to carry a fuel stove especially in summer during fire ban periods.

The Bibbulmun Track is one of the world's great long distance walk trails, stretching 1000km from Kalamunda, a suburb in the hills on the outskirts of Perth, to the historic town of Albany on the south coast. It passes through the heart of the scenic south west of Western Australia. The Track is for walkers only and is signposted with yellow triangular markers symbolising the Waugal, the rainbow serpent of the Aboriginal Dreaming. For more information about the Nyoongar culture please see the various Along the Track pages and visit Nyoongar Knowledge. Trail markers are spaced up to 500m apart. They are more frequent when there is an intersection with other tracks or when the Track takes a turn.
The Track takes walkers through towering karri and tingle forests, down mist-shrouded valleys, over giant granite boulders and along breathtaking coastal heathlands. It passes through many of the most beautiful national parks of the south west forests and coastline. The Bibbulmun Track offers a wide range of experiences, from a gentle stroll to enjoy the peace and beauty of the natural environment, to an epic eight week adventure. Bibbulmun Track Web:

Don’t forget the Warren River Loop Walk (11 kilometres) which heads down through tall karri forest to the meandering Warren River where you can swim before heading up to the Warren River Lookout for superb views of the valley. Walks in the Warren or Gloucester National Parks surround the historical fire lookout trees, the 68 metre Bicentennial Tree or Gloucester Tree (61 metres) beckoning to be climbed.
