Pemberton and The Bibbulmun Track.
The Bibbulmun Track: Discover the Heart of the Southern Forests.
The Bibbulmun Track is one of Western Australia’s most treasured long‑distance walking trails, stretching over 1,000 kilometres from Kalamunda to Albany. In the Southern Forests and Valleys region — Pemberton, Northcliffe, Manjimup and Walpole — the Track reveals some of its most spectacular and soul‑stirring landscapes. This is where ancient forests, peaceful rivers and wild coastline create a walking experience unlike anywhere else.
Around Pemberton, the Track winds through towering karri forests, cool gullies and lush understorey alive with birdlife. Did you know the Bibbulmun Track runs right through the heart of Pemberton — making it one of the most accessible and rewarding sections for day walkers and long‑distance hikers alike. Walkers enjoy serene stretches along the Warren River, the Gloucester National Park area, and seasonal fungi displays that bring bursts of colour to the forest floor.
South of Pemberton, the trail leads into the quiet beauty of Northcliffe, known for its remote forest corridors, wetlands and deep sense of solitude. This section offers a true wilderness feel, with long, peaceful stretches perfect for walkers seeking immersion in nature.
To the north, Manjimup serves as a practical gateway to the Track. While the trail doesn’t pass directly through town, many walkers use Manjimup as a base for supplies, accommodation and access to nearby trailheads. Its rich agricultural heritage — including the famous truffle industry — adds flavour to any walking adventure.
Further along the trail, the landscape transforms again as you approach Walpole, home to the world‑famous Valley of the Giants and its towering tingle trees. This region blends forest, inlet and coastline, offering walkers breathtaking views, ancient giants and the unique experience of walking beneath some of the tallest trees on Earth.
Whether you’re exploring a short section, planning an overnight hike, or tackling a longer journey, the Bibbulmun Track in this region offers something truly special — a chance to slow down, breathe deeply and reconnect with the natural world.
