🚫 Why Can’t Dogs Enter National Parks?

We understand that dogs are part of the family, and many visitors would love to bring them everywhere. However, national parks and conservation areas protect fragile ecosystems and native wildlife.

Dogs and domestic animals are not permitted in most Western Australian national parks because:

🐾 The sights, sounds and smells of pets can stress native animals and may cause them to abandon their homes or young.

🐾 1080 fox-control baits are often used in conservation areas and can be fatal to domestic animals.

🐾 Dogs can be at risk from snake bites.

🐾 Native animals such as kangaroos and goannas may defend themselves if threatened.

Bringing an animal into lands managed under the Conservation and Land Management Act 1984 is an offence and penalties may apply.

✅ When Can I Bring My Pet Into a Park? – There are limited exceptions:

✔ Certified assistance animals may enter parks.

✔ Pets may travel in boats within marine parks or reserves, but they must not enter or leave the boat within the park or reserve.

✔ If you must drive through a national park because there is no other practical route, your pet may remain inside your vehicle while travelling through. You must not stop within the park.

🚗 Dogs must never be left unattended in vehicles in national parks, or removed from the vehicle, except when travelling through where permitted.
