Born in Scotland in 1940, I completed an Apprenticeship as an Electrician and worked
underground in Coal Mines, joining the Merchant Marine as an Electrician/Engineer and
travelled the world for a number of years. I came to Australia in the late 1960's and worked as an Electrician in the Iron Ore industry in Pilbara.Being a self-taught painter, sketches were a regular interest on the travels around the North West and over Western Australia.
I settled in Pemberton in 1989 and had more formal Art Study with Brian Ayleward and
Greg Baker on weekend workshops. TAFE evening courses continued the studies and
kept the enthusiasm going along with the other students. Inspiration comes from a genuine love of the landscape, an appreciation of the natural beauty that surrounds us and the place of the Human in the 'Great Scheme of Things'
